Kaos Studios Closing Down

THQ’s Kaos Studios, creators of Frontlines Fuel of War and Homefront may be closing down.

[UPDATE]: THQ has confirmed it has made a “strategic realignment within its internal studio structure and is in the process of closing two locations: the company’s UK studio and Kaos studio in New York. THQ also confirmed it is in the process of closing its Digital Warrington studio in the UK. The Montreal studio will take over product development and overall creative management for the Homefront franchise. The Montreal studio actively collaborated with KAOS on Homefront.

The company continues to strengthen its internal creative development expertise and is actively hiring in many of its internal studios, including Montreal and Vancouver, Canada, as well as Austin, Texas. THQ’s UK studio and KAOS employees will have the opportunity to interview for open positions with the company globally.

Former level designer and writer Zach Wilson Tweeted some sad news about the future of Kaos Studios. Click on the picture to redirect to the actual Tweet.

He went on to say:

Assuming these rumors are true, at least the developers have jobs set up in the future. THQ confirmed future installments of Homefront, but with the studio possibly closing down what does this mean for the future? We will keep you posted as the story unveils.

  1. This is what happens, even when you have a “successful” release, you’re not safe as a developer unless you are independent and not wholly-owned and operated. It always comes down to bottom lines with the mega publishers, which, I don’t disagree with, however, they “cut the fat” so to speak by closing down accomplished names and handing off their load to cheaper, new developers.

  2. Who’s shocked by this? I never played Frontlines: Fuel of War but it now may seem to have been the first Homefront like experience which consists of a good concept that’s poor executed. Anyhow Homefront played like some lowbudget shooter running on one of the most overrated engines, The Unreal Engine, which shines only on the Gears franchise.

  3. P.s. No edit button? Grrrr!

  4. red star for life.
